An homage to Panasonic's Lumix cameras...

We use a lot of different cameras, but anyone who has followed our work for a while knows that Panasonic's Lumix brand of cameras has been our camera of choice for many projects - we used the GH3 for aerials on Dumb and Dumber To!  We've also used the Lumix GH4 a lot since its release.  We liked it so much we bought two of them!  And now we've produced a very special project, almost 3 years in the making, that really could be considered an homage to Lumix...

Judy Fairchild of Dewees Island contacted us in 2012 to film some b-roll of the island that she could use in various video projects.  The project started with a day of aerials in January of 2013.  We filmed those aerials with the GH2, a camera that still packs a lot of punch.  We were so thrilled with the shots that we grabbed in that short trip that we cut a few together into a highlight reel.

Dewees Island, 2013

It's a 20 minute ferry ride to the island.  And it's a peaceful ride over even with a copter in hand.

Judy and the rest of the islands inhabitants were thrilled with the results, so they invited us to come back during the summer of 2013 for a couple of days of warm weather filming - a mix of aerials and ground shots.  This time we brought along our new GH3.  And once again we were thrilled with the results and cut together a short highlight reel from our trip. Panasonic was impressed and used the reel in a trade show booth.  As you can see from the reel, we had a lot of fun, and the Fairchild family and all the island residents and visitors were gracious hosts.

Since then, we've shot aerials for a wide array of projects...

Fast forward to 2015, and now Yonder Blue Films has evolved into a full-service production company

We still shoot aerials, you can see 20 of our shots in Insurgent (#1 at the box office this weekend), but we also do a whole lot more these days.

We decided it was time to return to Dewees Island for another trip, this time armed with all of our latest production gear from folks like Zacuto, O'Connor, Freefly, and a pair of battle-tested Panasonic Lumix GH4's.  We needed glorious 4k video in a small package for this trip.  The goal: To share the essence of the natural beauty and community that make Dewees Island such a special place.  The video below is the result.  It combines footage from three generations of Panasonic's cameras - the GH2, GH3, and GH4.  A video 3 years in the making...

If you enjoyed this video, share it with your friends, or even better, go visit Dewees Island with your friends!  We have.

Dewees Island is near Charleston, SC, a fun place in its own right, and after a 20 minute ferry ride you're a world a way from the daily grind without a care in the world, and that's a trip we could all use.  It's a special place and we filmed it with a unique lineup of cameras.  Thanks for watching and sharing.
